Meet The Pastor’s Wife

Hi! I’m Emily. I happen to be a pastor’s wife.
In my daily life, I tend to find that the above sentence is all that people care about. Saying it to another person either turns the conversation sour and awkward as the other person tells me they’re not religious and assumes I’ll call down God’s wrath on them, or the Christian I’m talking to clams up, not wanting to look bad in front me.
I’m here to find a new path for myself and other women who happen to be married to pastors. A conversational Plan C, if you will.
Now, a little about me.
I’m in my late 20s, have two young girls, and stay home with them in our little 1930s home in the Midwest. I have spent the last 6 years of marriage following my husband through 4 years of seminary (pastor school), 1 year of vicarage (pastor internship), and finally to his first call (pastor job). My husband is an associate pastor at a wonderful church that we love in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS). You’ll find that my experiences are unique to this LCMS denomination, and pastors’ wives in other denominations will go through different paths for their husbands’ schooling, and so on.
But I’ve got to tell you, being a pastor’s wife is a complicated business. My life is very public, my child-rearing heavily scrutinized, and my husband’s schedule very erratic as he “tends the flock”.
Welcome to my corner of the internet, where I share a little about our life and help you understand your pastor’s family a bit better.
Joy in Jesus,
Emily (The Pastor's Wife)
